On board the Royal Navy type 15 anti-submarine frigate Ursa (1943) of the 8th Frigate Squadron (West Indies) while under way in the West Indies during an exercise involving both the 7th and 8th Frigate Squadrons. The photographer is on the port side of 01 deck at 36 station looking aft and to port showing the twin Mark V 40 mm bofors gun mount with the open bridge and the type 277Q radar aerial abaft it. A number of her crew are getting out life jackets. Off the port side and seen from ahead of her starboard beam is the type 41 frigate Lynx (1955) steaming in line abreast and about to move closer to carry out a jackstay transfer. She is a unit of the 7th Frigate Squadron (South Atlantic) and her pendant number is F27.
