On board the Royal Navy commando carrier Bulwark (1948) under way in the Norwegian Sea off the northern coast of Norway during the NATO exercise Polar Express. The photographer is looking to port and slightly aft from near the aft end of the flight deck showing Land Rovers of 45 Royal Marine Commando parked on deck. Some of the men of 45 Commando are sunbathing. A Soviet Navy Riga class frigate, seen from off her starboard side, is steaming parallel to the carrier and she is one of two of these vessels that were used to shadow the exercise.
