A single-masted junk underway near Wusong.
A starboard view, just aft of the broadside, of a single masted junk underway on starboard tack. The flat sheer lined vessel has a small leeboard at the same position of the single mast, just forward of midships. There are many people sitting forward of a small low deck house, including one man dressed in white standing prominently just forward of the mast. Aft, there are four men, one at the long angled tiller, which works the square rudder through the overhanging counter of the stern.
Behind the junk, off the port beam is a low lying coast with many trees.
The original negative envelope was labelled: 'Single masted junk. Woosung, 1900'
