An atmospheric, almost monochrome wash drawing over pencil, looking from beside the north front of the King Charles Court eastward along what is now Admiral's Walk. The opening of the Grand Square is on the left with the north pavilion of the Queen Anne Court. At the far end of the walk is the eastern terminal pavilion which (with the balancing west pavilion) was apparently demolished when the boundary walls and old railings were taken down and replaced by the present railings in about 1860.

The received title (now changed) said this was a view of 'the Naval College' but it clearly shows Pensioners as well as visitors so must be before its general closure in 1865, even if done restrospectively. The industrial skyline of East Greenwich lies beyond to the left, with a ketch-rigged Thames barge in port-broadside silhouette and the masts of vessels moored beyond the pavilion. The drawing may be for a published illustration in a magazine or book, a field in which Foster did a great amount of work, but if so it has not yet been identified.
