A view along the starboard side of the upper deck of HMS Waterwitch (1893)
A view of the upper deck of the survey ship HMS Waterwitch (1893) taken from the gratings on the starboard side at the stern behind the wheel (seen in the bottom left corner). The mizzen boom, without sails bent on, and gaff yard dominate the top left of the image. In the foreground is the louvred-door safe with the skylight behind it over the commander's day cabin on the lower deck below. The curved-top structure is the ladderway to the lower deck. The ventilation cowls can be seen in front of the mizzen mast. Three sailors stand on the upper deck below the flying bridge. The 27ft steam whaler is in its davits on the right of the photograph opposite the mizzen, with a 27ft whaler, ahead, in davits off the bridge.
