'Interior of a junk, Hong Kong, February 1901'
A view along the deck of a Chinese junk moored in Hong Kong Harbour, taken from the foredeck looking aft. In the immediate foreground by the main mast are two windlasses, one of which has halyards wrapped around it. The other has thick rope wound along the width of the barrel, possibly from the anchor. The cargo hold amidships looks mostly empty with a few wooden walkways laying across the top. The after deck has some chests on it. The furled sails and yards are resting on two boom supports amidships and astern.
Another junk is moored alongside its starboard broadside and another vessel, with a canvas awning, is along the portside.
The original negative envelope was labelled: 'Interior of a junk, H.K. Feb 1901'.
