The Royal Fleet Auxiliary oiler Wave Chief (1946) under way during the Maritime Air Defence Exercise Highwood which took place in the North Sea and the Norwegian Sea. The photographer is on board the Royal Navy frigate Rapid (1942) looking aft and to starboard from the starboard side at the aft end of 01 deck level during refuelling from the oiler. Everything forward of the bridge of the oiler and her extreme stern are out of the picture.
