'Child at oar, Sampan, Hong Kong'

An unidentified Chinese child at a sampan oar. The child is dressed in black, with a short haircut and ear ring on the left ear (the right ear cannot be seen). The sampan oar is lashed to the thole pin with a rope. The child, who is quite young, does not appear to be actually working the oar, but rather posing for the photo.

The original negative envelope was labelled: 'Child at oar, Sampan, H.K. 1901'
