On board the sail training brig Royalist (1971) under sail during a training cruise off the Isle of Wight in the last quarter of 1973. The photographer is on the deck abaft the mainmast looking forward with the ship heeling slightly to port. Some of the cadet are on the starboard side of the deck and some are in the rigging. A female cadet in the right foreground is holding a camera. One of Palmerston's Spithead forts can be seen on the horizon.
