Stern of the static training ship Fisgard III at Gosport.

A view of the walk-wayed stern of the static artificer training ship HMS Fisgard III (ex HMS Terrible, 1895), fine off its port side. The photographer was standing at the bows of HMS Fisgard I (ex HMS Spartiate, 1898) looking forward. FISGARD 3 is written on the stern of the old warship and below that, painted out, is the original name of 'TERRIBLE'.

To the left of the ships, off the port side of Fisgard III, is a tall wooden jetty (bridge) with steps leading to the water. Small ship's boats are moored off the steps. In the background are a couple of other moored warships and the land around Hardway to the north of Gosport. These warships are one of the '24'-class fleet minsweeping sloops (possibly HMS Ladas (1918) in camoflague), an Anchusa-class Q-ship and an Ascot-class paddle sweeper.

The original negative envelope was labelled: 'HMS Fisgard and part of bridge 1921'.
