A distant port broadside view of the Royal Navy frigate Leander (1961) at sea in the North Atlantic within 200 miles of Iceland during the time known as the 3rd Cod War. She is leader of the 3rd Frigate Squadron and her pendant number is F109. She has been fitted with an Ikara anti-submarine missile system in place of her 4.5 inch gun turret and a Westland Wasp HAS.1 helicopter is flying near to her stern. The photographer is on board the patrolling Royal Navy frigate Falmouth (1959) which is also a member of the 3rd Frigate Squadron.
