On board the Royal Navy commando carrier Hermes (1953) in the Norwegian Sea off the northern Norwegian coast during the NATO exercise Atlas Express which lasted from 18 February to 20 March 1976. The photographer is on the flight deck watching the Westland Sea King HAS.1 helicopter XV712 coded 273 of 814 Naval Air Squadron approaching the ship with an underslung Snowcat tractor. A Westland Wessex HU.5 helicopter of 845 Naval air Squadron is also in flight. A Land Rover and some men are in the foreground. One of the men is the Deputy Air Engineer Officer and another is PO R.E.L. (A) Taylor of 845 Naval Air Squadron.
