On board the Royal Navy offshore patrol vessel Orkney (1976) during a patrol in the 200 nautical mile economic exclusion zone in the North Sea off the Shetland Isles. The photographer is on the port side of the bridge roof looking up at the mast showing the single flag L at the hoist, meaning "You should stop your vessel instantly". The Norwegian trawler Knester (1967) - not in the picture - was the target for the signal.
