On board the United States Navy guided missile destroyer Claude V Ricketts (1960) while under way in the North Atlantic. The photographer is looking forward from the starboard side of 01 deck amidships during a jackstay transfer with the destroyer Du Pont (1956) whose bow can be seen on the right. A waterproof bag is on deck waiting to be hauled across. The Ricketts' crew consisted of 10 officers and 164 crew from the US Navy with the rest of the complement being from West Germany, Italy, Greece, United Kingdom, Netherlands and Turkey as a mixed manning experiment.
