On board the United States Navy guided missile destroyer Claude V Ricketts (1960) while on a voyage from Kiel to Norfolk, Virginia. The photographer is on the starboard side of 01 deck abaft the aft superstructure looking aft showing the aft 5 inch D.P. gun mount and the twin Tartar missile launcher. Crew members are relaxing on deck during an off-duty period. This is said to be the last dog watch. The Ricketts' crew consisted of 10 officers and 164 crew from the US Navy with the rest of the complement being from West Germany, Italy, Greece, United Kingdom, Netherlands and Turkey as a mixed manning experiment.
