On board the guided missile destroyer Claude V Ricketts (1960) arriving at Norfolk Naval Base, Virginia. The photographer is on the port side of the forecastle abaft the 5 inch D.P. gun mount looking forward showing some of the crew in whites on the forecastle assisting the berthing. The different headgear shows the mixed nationality of the crew. The Ricketts' crew consisted of 10 officers and 164 crew from the US Navy with the rest of the complement being from West Germany, Italy, Greece, United Kingdom, Netherlands and Turkey as a mixed manning experiment. Unidentified warships are in the background.
