The photographer is looking forward from the starboard side of 01 deck abaft the forward 5 inch DP gun mount showing four of the ship's enlisted men on the forecastle. The Ricketts' crew consisted of 10 officers and 164 crew from the US Navy with the rest of the complement being from West Germany, Italy, Greece, United Kingdom, Netherlands and Turkey as a mixed manning experiment. A Federal German Navy frigate of the Köln class is ahead of her.
