On board the United States Navy guided missile destroyer Claude V Ricketts (1960) while on a voyage from Kiel to Norfolk, Virginia. The photographer is on the starboard side of 01 deck abreast the Asroc launcher looking aft showing a crewman hauling a shot line ready to carry out a jackstay transfer of a waterproof bag to the guided missile frigate Dewey (1958). Three officers in whites are in discussion in the foreground. The Ricketts' crew consisted of 10 officers and 164 crew from the US Navy with the rest of the complement being from West Germany, Italy, Greece, United Kingdom, Netherlands and Turkey as a mixed manning experiment. The Dewey (1958) is not in the picture.
