On board the United States Navy guided missile destroyer Claude V Ricketts (1960) in the North Atlantic. The photographer is looking forward, down and to starboard from 01 deck amidships showing the gasoline gig in the water with 12 men aboard about to be sent away. All the men are wearing life jackets. A number of men are on deck watching proceedings. The Ricketts' crew consisted of 10 officers and 164 crew from the US Navy with the rest of the complement being from West Germany, Italy, Greece, United Kingdom, Netherlands and Turkey as a mixed manning experiment.
