On board the United States Navy guided missile destroyer Claude V Ricketts (1960) while under way approaching Norfolk Naval Base, Virginia. The photographer is looking over the shoulder of a Royal Navy officer and a Royal Navy rating who are leaning against the bridge wing screen. The Ricketts' crew consisted of 10 officers and 164 crew from the US Navy with the rest of the complement being from West Germany, Italy, Greece, United Kingdom, Netherlands and Turkey as a mixed manning experiment. In the background is the United States Navy aircraft carrier Enterprise (1960), hull number 65, seen from off her starboard quarter.
