On board the United States Navy guided missile destroyer Claude V Ricketts (1960) while on passage from Kiel to Norfolk, Virginia. The photographer is on the starboard side of 01 deck amidships looking forward and slightly to starboard showing men with a heaving line standing by the turntable of the Asroc launcher. The Ricketts' crew consisted of 10 officers and 164 crew from the US Navy with the rest of the complement being from West Germany, Italy, Greece, United Kingdom, Netherlands and Turkey as a mixed manning experiment. The bow of the destroyer Du Pont (1956), hull number 941, can be seen off to starboard as the two ships close to carry out a jackstay transfer.
