On board the United States Navy guided missile destroyer Claude V Ricketts (1960) which is stopped while on passage from Kiel to Norfolk, Virginia. The photographer is on the port side of the quarterdeck showing four of the crew by the ship's rail. The destroyer Du Pont (1956), hull number 941, seen from ahead of her port beam, is stopped and her port boat is in the water alongside the quarterdeck transferring personnel. The Ricketts' crew consisted of 10 officers and 164 crew from the US Navy with the rest of the complement being from West Germany, Italy, Greece, United Kingdom, Netherlands and Turkey as a mixed manning experiment.
