On board the United States Navy guided missile destroyer Claude V Ricketts (1960) while on passage from Kiel to Norfolk, Virginia. The photographer is on the port side of the forecastle deck abaft the 5 inch D.P. gun mount looking up and aft showing the port side of the bridge and the bridge wing. A flag hoist at the port yardarm are the letters NDRO which is her radio call sign. The Ricketts' crew consisted of 10 officers and 164 crew from the US Navy with the rest of the complement being from West Germany, Italy, Greece, United Kingdom, Netherlands and Turkey as a mixed manning experiment.
