On board the United States Navy guided missile destroyer Claude V Ricketts (1960) in the North Atlantic. The photographer is looking forward, down and to starboard from 1 deck aft showing the motor boat in the water arriving alongside with 3 crew and 2 passengers aboard and its engine running. The crew are wearing life jackets but the passengers, who are about to disembark, are not. The ship's davits are in the lowered position. Commander Thoms E Fortson USN, officer in command, is on deck watching proceedings. The Ricketts' crew consisted of 10 officers and 164 crew from the US Navy with the rest of the complement being from West Germany, Italy, Greece, United Kingdom, Netherlands and Turkey as a mixed manning experiment.
