The Orient Line passenger cruise liner Orcades (1937) at Alexandretta, Turkey

A distant port quarter view of the Orient Line passenger cruise liner Orcades (1937) anchored off Alexandretta, Turkey, taken from the shore. Two young girls are sitting in a small rowing boat drawn up on the shore. Four men are sitting in a rowing boat with the name Izmir on the transom. A former Royal Navy KIL class gunboat of 1918-1919 converted to a merchant cargo ship is at anchor on the left. A large number of these vessels were registered under Italian owners, the Salam had an Egyptian owner and the San Gorg had a Maltese owner.
