The Orient Line passenger cruise liner Orcades (1937) at Alexandretta, Turkey

A distant port quarter view of the Orient Line passenger cruise liner Orcades (1937) anchored off Alexandretta, Turkey, taken from the shore. Two of her motor lifeboats, including number 1, are between her and the shore. A local rowing boat registered H.D. IS.284 is heading for the shore with a few passengers. A local man in a rowing boat is just offshore and the stern of a beached rowing boat is in the right foreground. A former Royal Navy KIL class gunboat of 1918-1919 converted to a merchant cargo ship is at anchor on the left. A large number of these vessels were registered under Italian owners, the Salam had an Egyptian owner and the San Gorg had a Maltese owner.
