Sketches 'Copied from log of whaler William 1796 owned by Enderby's', with notes on rigging etc

Signed by artist. The full inscription to the upper sketch reads: 'Copied from log of Whaler "William" 1796 owned by Enderby's[.] Particuarly interesting as they show staysail and Driver tacks hauled a' weather - also an early dolphin striker'. This drawing shows the ship from off the starboard quarter, possibly with sails generally a back and the driver (on mizzen) and mizzen staysail hauled a-weather. Underneath the identity and ownership of the vesel is repeated. The lower sketch is from the same angle but fainter and with a slightly different sail arrangements, presumably copied from a different scketch in the original log. A 'flying royal' is noted as rigged on the main royal mast and the main caption to the left reads: 'The little quarter davits are called crains [ie cranes] in the log'. Below the drawing is a note 'Whale boats on booms and on crains- also stern davits', and bottom left the artist's signature: ' H. Wyllie / Tower House Portsmouth'. Harold Wyllie was the son of W.L. Wyllie (who lived at Tower House from 1906/7 to his death in 1931 and his widow until a little later).
