Ceremonial Barge

Ceremonial barge which belonged to the Commissioners of the Navy, which is generally true but the specific triple-anchor badge on the stern is that of the Navy Board - who ran the dockyards and other logistics- rather than the Admiralty Commissioners (ie Admiralty Board) who directed policy. The barge is made of wood and is clinker built. This is a much simpler open working barge than BAE0036 and the only other official one now preserved following their discontinuance of service in 1863. Like BAE0036 it was preserved at Chatham Dockyard until transferred to the Museum in 1957.
