HMS 'Renown' or 'Repulse' seen in distant silhouette, with a plume of funnel smoke rising
A silhouette of the battlecruiser 'Renown' (1916) or 'Repulse' (1916) in 1916-1917 before the funnel searchlight platforms were modified. There are a substantial number of inaccuracies including shape of bow and details of the bridge structure, but no other ships had this general look and Wyllie purpose in this loose, liquid wash drawing is one of 'Turnerian' effect, above all the almost volcanic plume of smoke rising and drifting left in calm air.
