They are wooden rowing boats with a midship cabin and the number of passengers carried on chairs on top of the cabin varies with each boat.. The photographer is on one of the boats looking towards the Manikarnika Burning Ghat landing steps. Piles of wood for use on funeral pyres can be seen on the shore and on the terrace.
