Peat Princess

Cargo vessel, Somerset peat cutter's punt. The boat is called the 'Peat Princess'. Constructed using plank on frame secured to a flat bottom. The double ended hull construction with the bow and stern, known locally as 'noses' are low in profile to minimise the effect of windage, subsequently making it easier to operate by pole. To preserve the timbers and make it watertight the boat is covered in a thick layer of Stockholm tar/pitch.
