In the Bosphorus looking north with the fortress of Rumeli Hisari, also known as the Europe Towers, on the west bank in the distance. The photographer is on board the Orient Line passenger cruise ship Orford (1928) heading north and he is looking forward over the forecastle from the starboard side forward on the promenade deck. Some of the crew are lining the rail of the well deck.
