Two pieces of armour plate set up, presumably as a memorial, on Brioni Veli, Brioni Islands, Italy.
Two pieces of armour plate set up, presumably as a memorial, on Brioni Veli, Brioni Islands, Italy. The square on the left has been pierced by a large shell and the slightly thinner piece of plate on the right has been penetrated by a large shell which is still held by the plate. No details have been found concerning these pieces of armour plate or how they got to Brioni but it is assumed they are Krupp plates of Austro-Hungarian origin and the shell is likely to be a 240 mm (9.4 inch) calibre armour piercing type manufactured by Skoda Works.
