The photographer is looking south from on board the Orient Line passenger cruise ship Orontes (1929) which is anchored off the harbour showing one of the ship's tenders under way running parallel to the coast. The harbour breakwater is on the left and left of centre is a line of beach huts. Residential and commercial premises line the waterfront and the road that winds up the hill. Monte Cappello is on the right of the picture.
