Yacht race, showing the view aft on the deck of Kaiser Wilhelm II's 'Meteor' at Cowes, 1893, with 'Britannia' behind
original art: drawing. Inscribed by the artist, who was one of the Kaiser's guests on 'Meteor' during the 1893 Queen's Cup race - which he won - at Cowes Regatta, this drawing being done during that race and annotated 'just after the start Meteor leading'. The view is aft, over the cockpit, with 'Britannia', the yacht of the Prince of Wales (later Edward VII), astern and noted as 'Britannia detail same as yesterdays drawing'. The Kaiser is sitting on the edge of the cockpit on a bag or cushion with 'METE[OR]' on it, with a crowd of guests and crew behind him of whom the standing man in a hat, dark top and with a small beard is Captain Gomez, the yacht's professional skipper.
