A corner of the port of Civitavecchia, Italy. Sailing vessels are berthed bow on to the quay in the foreground and beyond them are two steam vessels. A black topped white funnel with a five pointed star logo on it belonging to a small steamer is on the extreme left. The stern of the cargo steamship San Carlo (1892), registered at Torre del Greco, Italy is alongside a wharf. This ship was broken up in 1931. The buildings on the quayside include one with a square clock tower on it and one with a painted sign above the door which reads 'Joseph Caruso Son & Co Ltd, General Ship Chandlers, Stores Merchants'.
