Fort Amsterdam and the Punda district of Willemstad, Curacao.
Fort Amsterdam and the Punda district at Willemstad, Curacao. The photographer is on board a passenger cruise ship bound outward looking north showing Fort Amsterdam on the right, the end of the open Queen Emma pontoon swing bridge on the Punda quay and schooners are berthed alongside the quay at the entrance to the Waaigat. The Dutch Navy training cruiser Gelderland (1898) is alongside the Curacao Trading Co wharf and the cargo liner Alemania (1921) is alongside the Hamburg-Amerika wharf. The quayside is lined with Dutch flags on flagpoles and the ships in Santa Anna Bay and Schottegat Bay are dressed overall. The festivities may be in celebration of the wedding of Princess Juliana of the Netherlands to Prince Bernhard of Lippe-Biesterfeld on 7 January 1937.
