Santa Anna Bay, the Waaigat and Punda district at Willemstad, Curacao.
The entrance to the Waaigat, the floating market and Punda district at Willemstad, Curacao. The photographer is looking south from on board the passenger cruise ship Kungsholm (1928) in Santa Anna Bay showing the bow of the German cargo ship Alemania (1921) (Note she has the swastika flag at the signal yard on the foremast) with a timber laden lighter alongside. She is berthed on the Curacao Trading Company wharf north of the Waaigat. Just inside the Waaigat alongside De Ruyterkade are the sailing vessels of the floating market, all with awnings rigged above their decks. Two 2-masted schooners, the inboard being the Maria (fl. 1930) registered at Curacao, are berthed on the Punda district quay. The buildings fronting the bay include the premises of the All America Cables Inc, the Curacao Trading Company S.A., Foto-Jacob, E. & C. Martijn, Vriedenkring, C. de Jongh, Hotel Suiza, Cafe Suiza, Palais Royal and Marchena Moron & Co.
