HMS Ark Royal (1950)

No. 4 [Lower Gallery] Deck, location 4P2. Interior of the Mooring Space, looking forward from roughly abreast down take 7PA0. Shoring planks are stowed in overhead racks. On the left are miscellaneous items of equipment, including a wooden ladder, coils of rope and a rattan float. To the right a large equipment box is bolted to the deck. A sailor is seated in the far corner with his cap perched on a stopcock. The watertight door to the right leads into the adjacent wing compartment.

This is part of a series of photographs taken during the final stages of HMS Ark Royal's last major refit which was completed in 1970. The location references are derived from the deck plans in the latest edition of the ship's NBCD book.
