HMS Ark Royal (1950)

No. 1 [Flight] Deck. One of the crash barriers in the raised position at the after end of the flight deck. This one is adjacent to the D.L.P.S. [Deck Landing Projector Sight], which can be seen just beyond the barrier arm despite being partially obscured by a tarpaulin. Beyond that is the arm of the starboard aircraft and boat crane.

This is part of a series of photographs taken during the final stages of HMS Ark Royal's last major refit which was completed in 1970. The location references are derived from the deck plans in the latest edition of the ship's NBCD book.
