HMS Ark Royal (1950)

No. 3 [Upper Hangar] Deck. The aft end of the hangar space, looking astern and to port. To the left is the shaft for the after aircraft lift, with a doorway leading to the nearby mess spaces just visible. To the right of the bulkhead at frame 178 is another doorway leading to the armoured compartment 3V2-400 and an aircraft electrical servicing station.

This is part of a series of photographs taken during the final stages of HMS Ark Royal's last major refit which was completed in 1970. The location references are derived from the deck plans in the latest edition of the ship's NBCD book.
