HMS Ark Royal (1950)

No. 3 [Upper Hangar] Deck. The interior of the hangar space, looking to port from the vicinity of frame 95. To the left is a workstation with a ship's telephone adjacent to the unarmoured door leading to No. 1 Aircraft Maintenance Office. To the right of these are various items of equipment including a NATO Air panel, radar cooling point and hydraulic hose reel. On the deck in the foreground are two large piles of folding chairs. At 'tween deck' and Upper Gallery Deck levels are large shelves for equipment stowage. The 'tween deck' shelves are filled to capacity, with the contents secured under tarpaulins.

This is part of a series of photographs taken during the final stages of HMS Ark Royal's last major refit which was completed in 1970. The location references are derived from the deck plans in the latest edition of the ship's NBCD book.
