W Beach at Cape Helles on the Gallipoli peninsula.

W Beach at Cape Helles on the Gallipoli peninsula. The photographer is looking west-north-west across the landing beach from shoreward showing various wrecks on the beach and the sunken wreck of a hopper barge offshore. A few people are on the beach looking at the wrecks. This is also known as Lancashire Landing as it was on this beach that the 1st Battalion of the Lancashire Fusiliers landed on 25 April 1915 and earned six V.Cs. before breakfast. The upper part of the negative is masked with red paint.
