V Beach at Cape Helles on the Gallipoli peninsula.
V Beach at Cape Helles on the Gallipoli peninsula. The photographer is looking west across the landing beach from Sedd el Bahr showing the temporary pier built to assist the unloading of stores and personnel into the narrow bridgehead and the evacuation of wounded. A few people are on the jetty. There is much wartime detritus in the foreground. This is the beach where the Dublin Fusiliers landed from the converted collier River Clyde (1905) on 25 April 1915. The upper part of the negative is masked with red paint.
