HMS Ark Royal (1950)

No. 5 [Lower Hangar] Deck. Interior of the hangar, looking to port from the vicinity of frame 135. In view in between items of miscellaneous equipment are a radar cooling point, hydraulic hose stowage and an empty space for stowing ejector seats. The vents in the centre form part of an unmarked down take. A large stowage shelf runs across the picture at 'tween deck' level. Figures in working rig can be seen to the left.

This is part of a series of photographs taken during the final stages of HMS Ark Royal's last major refit which was completed in 1970. The location references are derived from the deck plans in the latest edition of the ship's NBCD book.
