Z Beach at the south end of Anzac Cove, north of Gaba Tepe, on the Gallipoli peninsula. The photographer is looking south-west across the beach from inland. On 25 April 1915 four Australian and one New Zealand Infantry Brigades and one Indian Mountain Artillery Brigade landed at Anzac Cove north and south of Hell Spit. Z Beach was south of Hell Spit and after the landings was used as a bathing beach, hence it was christened Brighton Beach by the troops. The negative is captioned Brighton Beach, Gallipoli.
