W Beach at Cape Helles on the Gallipoli peninsula. The photographer is looking north-west across the landing beach from a corn field showing the sunken wreck of a hopper barge offshore and a few old wrecks at the water's edge. This is also known as Lancashire Landing as it was on this beach that the 1st Battalion of the Lancashire Fusiliers landed on 25 April 1915 and earned six V.Cs. before breakfast. The negative is captioned The Lancashire Landing, Gallipoli.
