The 42 ton monolithic granite cross erected by the Rue de la Reine at Gaspe, Quebec. The cross was commissioned by the federal government to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the arrival of the French explorer Jacques Cartier in the Bay of Gaspé on July 24, 1534. It was unveiled on August 25, 1934. The photographer is looking south-east across the York River mouth and the road bridge across the estuary is on the left of the picture.
