The photographer is looking west from the east side of the Parade showing two divisions of men from the Royal Navy battlecruiser Hood (1918) marching past a band which is standing on the parade ground. The sailors are carrying rifles with bayonets fixed. The parade is being watched by civilians and in the foreground is a pair of 10 inch, 18 ton, Mark II rifled muzzle loading cannon mounted on fixed iron carriages. In the distance is a Royal Navy battleship, either the Nelson (1925) or the Rodney (1925), at anchor in the Bay of Gibraltar.
