The dockyard, harbour and the Bay of Gibraltar from the slopes of Signal Hill. The photographer is looking west over the town buildings. The Royal Navy accommodation ships Cormorant (1877) and Hart (1883) are alongside the Coaling Island to the left of centre, the Cormorant being the nearest. At anchor in the harbour are an United States Navy four-stack destroyer and a general cargo ship. The South Mole is on the left and the Detached Mole is on the right. at anchor in the bay is the P. & O. Line's passenger cruise ship Viceroy of India (1929).
